By educating people, you make them a partner in therapy and you help them take responsibility for results.

EXAMPLES OF HOW THIS RESOURCE CAN HELP:

AT THE START OF THERAPY

Symptoms: A client may be stuck focusing on anxiety symptoms, fearing an illness of some kind. Learning how the body responds to stress, and about depression and burnout can reassure them and help them move on. You save time and the symptom checklist provides a guide to the therapeutic response.

Worry: Some people feel so overwhelmed by worry that they don't know where to start. They can feel more in control by filling out the worry and problem-solving sheets, helping focus the efforts in areas where it will be most valuable.

DURING THERAPY

The questionnaires help people to think and remember what you have discussed, to understand the concepts more completely, and to chart their progress. During counselling you may feel that they would benefit from some basic information on topics such as Relaxation, Assertiveness, Anger, Guilt, Time and Money Management etc.

Example: A client is dealing with an overbearing, critical relative. You could give them a copy of:
• The summary of communication skills
• Three pages on assertiveness
• The visual summary page so that they can see the importance of relaxation and a positive attitude as well .

**ALL FOR ONLY $199.00!**

'.....I have just purchased a fabulous resource from a colleague of mine. I think it is so basic and helpful that I wanted to pass this lead on to other Family Service Executive Directors......a huge three-ring  binder containing 24  main sections with a  tremendous diversity and range of topics related to stress....it summarized most of the current relevant literature related to stress management.

The binder includes materials ready to be copied for client handouts; great bibliographies; and lots of good notes and questionnaires for workshops and preparing presentations.

I must add that this 'scoop' is being passed on to you on my own initiative.

Cathy Brothers, Director, Catholic Family Counselling Centre (Region of Waterloo)

.....I  am writing to express my appreciation for the excellent resources contained in your workbook 'Winning Your Battle with Stress'.   We have recently purchased the workbook as a reference for our family medicine training program, and have come to learn that this is in fact much more than a reference book.

It is chock full of rich educational materials which the physicians have been distributing to patients, as well as consulting as they prepare educational prevention presentations and health education interventions.

Your creativeness, clarity and sense of humour come through the materials so immediately, making the use of them immensely helpful and enjoyable.

As the majority of our patients are Spanish-speaking, we have already discussed how we might translate your materials, adding a cultural spin to increase their relevance and meaningfulness to our patient population.

Again, many thanks for this rich addition to our clinic library........
